BACKGROUND: Data from patients with post-ablative dural defects reconstructed using a free temporalis muscle fascia graft (FTFG) after resection of anterior or central skull base tumors were retrospectively analyzed. METHODS: The primary predictor and outcome variables were the reconstructive methods for dural repair and postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage rate, respectively. RESULTS: Eighty patients were included, and 94 postoperative dural reconstructions were performed using FTFG. The postoperative CSF leakage rate was 3.19%. The postoperative CSF leakage rates did not significantly differ between open and endonasal endoscopic surgeries (1.92% vs. 4.88%; p > 0.05). In cases completed using the endonasal endoscopic approach, the postoperative CSF leakage rate was significantly associated with the intraoperative CSF leak flow (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Post-ablative dural defect reconstruction using FTFG resulted in low postoperative CSF leakage and complication rates comparable to those of free fascia lata graft from available literature.

The temporal fascia is a double lamina sandwiching a thick fat layer above the zygomatic bony arch. To characterize each lamina, their developmental processes were examined in fetuses. We observed histological sections from 22 half-heads of 10 mid-term fetuses at 14-18 weeks (crown-rump length, 95-150 mm) and 12 near-term fetuses at 26-40 weeks (crown-rump length, 215-334 mm). The superficial lamina of the temporal fascia was not evident at mid-term. Instead, a loose subcutaneous tissue was attached to the thin, deep lamina of the temporal fascia covering the temporalis muscle. At near-term, the deep lamina became thick, while the superficial lamina appeared and exhibited several variations: i) a mono-layered thick membrane (5 specimens); ii) a multi-layered membranous structure (6) and; iii) a cluster of independent thick fasciae each of which were separated by fatty tissues (1). In the second and third patterns, fatty tissue between the two laminae was likely to contain longitudinal fibrous bands in parallel with the deep lamina. Varying proportions of the multi-layered superficial lamina were not attached to the zygomatic arch, but extended below the bony arch. Whether or not lobulation or septation of fatty tissues was evident was not dependent on age. The deep lamina seemed to develop from the temporalis muscle depending on the muscle contraction. In contrast, the superficial lamina developed from subcutaneous collagenous bundles continuous to the cheek. Therein, a difference in development was clearly seen between two categories of the fasciae.

Background: Bridging repair has emerged as a promising and reliable treatment strategy for the massive rotator cuff tears (MRCTs). However, there remains a lack of evidence on which bridging graft provides the better repair results, and a dearth of animal studies comparing bridging repairs with different grafts. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histological and biomechanical outcomes of commonly used grafts (autologous fascia lata (FL), acellular dermal matrix graft (ADM), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) patch). Methods: A total of 66 male New Zealand White Rabbits were used to mimic a model of unilateral chronic MRCTs. The rabbits were randomly divided into three groups: (1) FL group, which underwent bridging repair with autologous FL; (2) ADM group, which underwent bridging with ADM; and (3) PET group, which underwent bridging with PET patch. Tissue samples were collected and subjected to histological analysis using Hematoxylin and eosin, Picrosirius red, Safranin O/Fast green staining, and Immunostaining. Collagen diameter and fibril density in the regenerated tendon was analyzed with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Additionally, biomechanical tests were performed at 6 and 12 weeks after repair. Results: The regenerated tendon successfully reattached to the footprint in all experimental groups. At 6 weeks after repair, the FL group had a significantly higher Modified Tendon Histological Evaluation (MTHE) score at the regenerated tendon than the PET group (13.2 ± 1.64 vs 9.6 ± 1.95, respectively; P = 0.038). The picrosirius red staining results showed that the FL group had a significantly higher type I collagen content than the ADM and PET groups at 6 weeks, and this difference was sustained with the PET group at 12 weeks (P < 0.05). Immunofluorescence analysis against CD68 indicated that the number of macrophage infiltrates was significantly lower in the FL group than in the ADM and PET groups (P < 0.05). At 12 weeks after repair, the area of Safranin O metachromasia was significant greater in ADM group than that in the PET group (P = 0.01). The FL group showed a significantly larger collagen diameter in the regenerated tendon than the PET group (P < 0.05), as indicated by TEM results. Furthermore, the FL group resulted in a greater failure load (at 6 weeks; 118.40 ± 16.70 N vs 93.75 ± 9.06 N, respectively; P = 0.019) and elastic modulus (at 6 weeks; 12.28 ± 1.94 MPa vs 9.58 ± 0.79 MPa, respectively; P = 0.024; at 12 weeks; 15.02 ± 2.36 MPa vs 11.63 ± 1.20 MPa, respectively; P = 0.032) than the ADM group. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that all three grafts could successfully bridging chronic MRCTs in a rabbit model. However, autologous FL promoted tendon regeneration and maturation, and enhanced the tensile properties of the tendon-to-bone complex when compared with ADM and PET grafts.

Surgical approaches for pelvic organ prolapse have evolved over the last 30 years and is a popular topic for debate, particularly when discussing apical prolapse. Transvaginal native tissue repairs remain the mainstay of POP surgeries, however, transabdominal approaches continue to evolve. Use of interposition material, such as synthetic polypropylene mesh, is the standard when performing an abdominal sacrocolpopexy, however, use of autologous fascia can be considered. This debate article provides an overview of this subject and highlights the value of different approaches to apical prolapse. The authors were asked to support their approach in various scenarios including:extremes of age, prior hysterectomy and intact uterus, desire to avoid mesh, sexual activity, and presence of comorbidities. In discussing common patient scenarios, ultimate decision making on specific POP surgeries is determined by patient preference and goals.

OBJECTIVE: The reconstruction of composite defects in the oral and maxillofacial region using vascularized fascial flaps, such as the fibular, iliac, and temporal fascial flaps, has gained increasing attention among surgeons. However, there remains uncertainty regarding the suitability of fascial flaps as transplants, as well as their healing processes and outcomes, due to their non-mucosal nature. This study aims to comprehensively assess the biological aspects of vascularized fascial flaps at clinical, histological, and genetic levels, with the goal of providing essential biological references for their clinical application. STUDY DESIGN: This study enrolled three patients who underwent reconstruction of combined oral mucosa-mandibular defects using fibular vascularized fascial flaps between 2020 and 2023. Data regarding changes in the appearance of the fascial flaps, bulk-RNA sequencing, and histological slices of initial fascia, initial gingiva, and transformed fascia were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Within three months, the fascial flaps exhibited rapid epithelial coverage and displayed distinct characteristics resembling mucosa. High-throughput RNA sequencing analyses and histological slices revealed that the transformed fascia exhibited tissue structures similar to mucosa and demonstrated unique advantages in promoting blood vessel formation and reducing scarring through the high-level expression of relevant genes. CONCLUSION: These findings emphasize the potential and feasibility of utilizing vascularized fascial flaps for oral mucosa reconstruction, establishing their unique advantage as transplant materials, and providing significant biological information and references for their selection and clinical application.

The article reviews the anatomical path of the phrenic nerve and its anastomoses, with the most up-to-date knowledge reported in the literature. We have briefly reviewed the possible phrenic dysfunctions, with the final aim of presenting an osteopathic manual approach for the treatment of the most superficial portion of the nerve, using a gentle technique. The approach we propose is, therefore, a theory based on clinical experience and the rationale that we can extrapolate from the literature. We hope that the article will be a stimulus for further experimental investigations using the technique illustrated in the article. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first article that takes into consideration the hypothesis of an osteopathic treatment with gentle techniques for the phrenic nerve.

Synovial fistulae associated with large defects in capsulo-synovial envelope have been reported rarely, mostly after surgeries or infections. Unlike post arthroscopy synovial fistulae, which may be treated with immobilisation with or without direct repair, surgical obliteration of defect and track is essential for healing of such synovial fistulae. Technical aspect of obliteration emphasized in literature is watertight tensionless closure of the defect. We report surgical technique of closure of one such synovial fistula with Free Fascia Lata Graft with an inbuilt valve mechanism to reduce chances of recurrence. Watertightness of closure was demonstrated intraoperatively by instilling saline under pressure in the joint. Healing of free fascia lata graft with capsular tissue with valve mechanism persistently demonstrable at a follow up of more than three year is shown.

This case report details a unique presentation of an infiltrative intramuscular lipoma in the anterior thigh of a 51-year-old female with an overlying fascial defect. The patient reported a progressively enlarging left thigh mass associated with pain exacerbated by knee movement and exercise. MRI revealed a homogeneous intramuscular lipoma without contrast enhancement with a fascial defect. An 8 cm longitudinal incision exposed a 7 x 4 cm fascial defect overlying the lipomatous mass within the rectus femoris muscle. Pathological analysis confirmed an intramuscular lipoma without malignancy. Follow-ups at two, six, and 12 weeks demonstrated pain resolution and no soft tissue bulge. This case underscores the importance of distinguishing intramuscular lipomas from other neoplasms, such as lipomatosis and liposarcomas. The association of a fascial defect with intramuscular lipomas is unprecedented and may be due to the increased pressure on the fascia by the lipoma. The report emphasizes the role of MRI in diagnosis and appropriate surgical management, and highlights the need for further exploration into the etiology of fascial defects associated with intramuscular lipomas.

BACKGROUND: Anterior displacement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc is the most typical pathological condition of TMJ disorders. Structures attached to the articular disc may support the disc in various directions and contribute to stabilizing the TMJ. However, the relationship between the articular disc, capsule, and masticatory muscles remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the relationship between the masticatory muscles, related masticatory fascia, articular disc, and capsule. METHODS: We examined 10 halves from adult Japanese cadavers, with five halves macroscopically analyzed and the remaining five histologically analyzed. The TMJ was dissected from the lateral aspect for gross anatomical analysis. For histological analysis, the relationship between the temporal and masseteric fasciae and the articular capsule was observed in the coronal section. Additionally, we evaluated relationships among the disc, capsule, temporal fascia, and masseteric fascia in 10 living and healthy volunteers using magnetic resonance imaging. RESULTS: The articular disc was attached to the capsule without a clear border. The capsule continued into the masseteric and temporal fasciae. Consequently, the articular disc, capsule, masseteric, and temporal fasciae were considered a single complex. CONCLUSIONS: The single complex of the temporalis, masseter, capsule, masticatory fascia, and disc may antagonize the force in the posterolateral direction through the fascia.

Objective: Nasal septum perforation (NSP) is a common condition affecting ~1.2% of the general population and is still considered challenging to treat. Therapeutic strategies range from conservative local treatments and septal button closures to over 40 different surgical approaches. This study aimed to present a novel secure approach. Methods: We describe our novel and unique NSP closure approach using a "fascia taco," in which conchal cartilage is enveloped by temporalis fascia like a taco and splints are left in place for 6-8 weeks. A review of patient charts was conducted and questionnaires including the German-SNOT-22 and D-NOSE were sent by mail to all eligible patients who received a fascia taco between 2016 and 2021. Results: Thirty-three patients were identified. The questionnaire response rate was 54.5%. The mean operative time (cut to sew) for all patients who only underwent NSP closure was 90.4 min. The overall success rate in terms of postoperative NSP closure was 81.8%. We found an apparent but nonsignificant association between closure failure and smoking (failure rate 66.6% in smokers vs. 15.4% in nonsmokers; X 2 = 3.4188, p = .064). Questionnaire analysis showed a significant postoperative reduction of mean values in D-NOSE from 60.8 to 33.1 (p = .009) and in German-SNOT-22 from 38.6 to 21.2 (p = .005). Conclusion: The fascia taco technique is an easy-to-apply, safe procedure for NSP closure that is short in duration and associated with a low morbidity, resulting in excellent patient satisfaction. Complications can arise secondary to anorectal suppurative diseases, with infections spreading along the extraperitoneal space, such as the peri-vesical, prevesical, pre-sacral, and pararectal spaces, resulting in abscesses at remote sites, which can make diagnosis more challenging. Due to the absence of peritonitis symptoms, there is a delay in presentation among such patients. Comprehending the intricacies of these areas and the way infection can spread within them is crucial for promptly identifying and effectively draining the extraperitoneal abscess. We present a case series of six patients with a mean age of 45, all males. A total of three patients had undergone incision and drainage after being diagnosed with anorectal suppurative disease and remained symptomatic after the initial surgical intervention of incision and drainage. Two patients initially diagnosed with anterior abdominal abscesses patients, after being treated with incision and drainage, continued to have purulent discharge from the drainage site. Finally, the last patient continued to present with perianal pain after an open hemorrhoidectomy. CT scans of all six patients showed collections in the extraperitoneal spaces correlated with the observed complications. To deepen our understanding of pelvic extraperitoneal spaces, cadaver dissections were conducted and compared with CT images. Through cadaver dissections and CT imaging, the study provides insights into the anatomy and interconnections of pelvic extraperitoneal spaces, emphasizing the importance of early CT scans for diagnosis. Understanding these intricate anatomical structures is essential for accurate diagnosis and efficient and effective treatment. Timely diagnosis is vital to prevent prolonged illness and reduce the risk of complications and mortality. The importance of early CT scans in suspected patients is underscored, which is highly important to expedite appropriate actions.

PURPOSE: To report new indications for deep temporalis fascia (DTF) grafts in the ophthalmic field. METHODS: Monocentric retrospective interventional case series study. All the patients who underwent a DTF graft in an unpublished new indication over the study period (May 2020-October 2023) were included. For each patient, gender, age, graft indication, outcomes, complications, and follow-up duration were collected. In most cases, the DTF graft was covered by a vascularized flap. RESULTS: Eight patients underwent a DTF graft over the study period. The indications were: radiotherapy-induced scleral necrosis in three cases, tendinoplasty to replace the inferior rectus muscle tendon invaded by a locally advanced conjunctival carcinoma in one case, Ahmed glaucoma valve tube exposure in one case, intraocular lens with scleral fixation exposure in one case, orbital cerebrospinal fluid fistula (orbitorrhea) in one case, and post-traumatic complete corneal graft loss in one case. The DTF graft was successful in 87.5% of cases after a mean follow-up of 11.4 months. No complications were observed. CONCLUSIONS: DTF graft is a highly versatile graft that can be easily harvested. New indications for DTF grafts may include the repair of radiotherapy-induced scleral necrosis, the creation of oculomotor tendon and the temporary packing of large ocular tissue loss in an emergency context. Further studies with a longer follow-up are needed to confirm our preliminary results.

INTRODUCTION: There has been increased interest in using autologous tissues since the Food and Drug Administration banned transvaginal mesh for pelvic organ prolapse in 2019. Our study aims to assess patients' perspective of functional and cosmetic impact on the fascia lata harvest site in patients undergoing fascia lata harvest for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHODS: This is a prospective survey study of a retrospective cohort of patients who underwent a fascia lata pubovaginal sling between 2017 and 2022. Participants completed a survey regarding the functional and cosmetic outcomes of the harvest site. RESULTS: Seventy-two patients met the inclusion criteria. Twenty-nine patients completed the survey for a completion rate of 40.3%. For functional symptoms, 24.1% (7/29) of patients reported leg discomfort, 10.3% (3/29) reported leg weakness, 10.3% (3/29) reported a bulge, 17.2% (5/29) reported scar pain, 14.8% (4/27) reported scar numbness, and 17.2% (5/29) reported paresthesia at the scar. For cosmetic outcomes, 72.4% (21/29) reported an excellent or good scar appearance. On the PGI-I, 75.9% (22/29) reported their condition as very much better (48.3%, 14/29) or much better (27.6%, 8/29). CONCLUSIONS: The majority of patients reported being satisfied with the functional and cosmetic outcomes of their harvest site as well as satisfied with the improvement in their SUI. Less than 25% of patients report harvest site symptoms, including leg weakness, scar bulging, scar pain, scar numbness, or paresthesia in the scar. This is important in the context of appropriate preoperative discussion and counseling regarding fascia lata harvest.

PURPOSE: Due to the reclassification of transvaginal mesh as a high-risk device, there has been renewed interest in the use of fascia lata in pelvic floor reconstruction. Here we report our experience in 108 patients who underwent large fascia lata harvest for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair. Our primary objective was to highlight the postoperative morbidity of the large fascia lata harvest in patients who underwent POP repair using fascia lata autograft. METHODS: Surgery involved harvesting a fascia lata graft through a small lateral upper thigh incision and was used for either autologous transvaginal POP repair or autologous sacrocolpopexy. To prevent seroma, a temporary Jackson-Pratt drain was intraoperatively placed and a mild compression wrap was applied to the area for 4-6 weeks postoperatively. Patient demographics were obtained preoperatively, while physical exam findings and postoperative outcomes related to the fascia lata harvest were collected at sequential follow up visits. RESULTS: One-hundred eight patients underwent 111 large fascia lata harvests for either transvaginal or abdominal/robotic POP repair from July 2016 to January 2022. Mean follow-up was 19.6 months (range: 1-65) with 38 patients having 24 months or more of follow-up. Mean Visual Analog Pain (VAP) score was 1 (range: 0-10). Sixteen patients developed asymptomatic thigh bulges, 16 patients developed harvest site seromas (of which 14 resolved), and 59 patients experienced mild, non-bothersome paresthesia near the incision. CONCLUSION: Large fascia lata harvest offers a robust autograft for transvaginal or transabdominal POP repair with minimal morbidity. Harvest site complications are minor and typically resolve with expectant management. This technique can be safely utilized in patients who desire graft-augmented repair of POP without the use of synthetic mesh, allograft, or xenograft.

A surgical technique has been developed using a robot-assisted system to create the surgical anatomical structure of the uterine artery caudal space (UACS), a landmark for performing extrafascial hysterectomy, enabling a safe and easy parametrial resection to prevent ureteral injury and cervical sidewall bleeding at hysterectomy. UACS is created to preserve the ureterohypogastric nerve fascia (UHNF), which envelopes the ureter and the hypogastric nerve, and the vesicohypogastric fascia (VF), which wraps the uterine artery and veins. The boundaries of UACS are UHNF laterally, the uterine cervix medially, and VF cranially. VF is penetrated between UACS and the medial pararectal space under the uterine vessels and transected. We present a case of early-stage uterine cancer and describe the new surgical technique in detail, using UACS as a surgical landmark. This surgical technique could be applied not only to early-stage uterine cancer but also to benign uterine tumors using a robot-assisted surgical system.

A combination of osteotomy and ligament reconstruction is recommended for posterolateral rotatory instability (PLRI) with large cubitus varus deformities. There is a lack of reports regarding ligament donor selection for ligament reconstruction of PLRI with cubitus varus. Two cases of PLRI with cubitus varus have been described. In case one, a 40-year-old woman presented with left elbow pain. She had a cubitus varus deformity, resulting from a childhood elbow fracture. Radiographs showed an 18-degree cubitus varus deformity. A lateral closing wedge osteotomy and double plate osteosynthesis were performed. The lateral collateral ligament (LCL) was reconstructed with autologous triceps fascia. Postoperative radiographs confirmed correction with 10 degrees of the carrying angle (CA). Bone union at the osteotomy site occurred six months later with excellent results. In case two, a 45-year-old man presented an arm with persistent right elbow instability with cubitus varus deformity. This was due to a childhood supracondylar fracture of the right humerus. Radiographs showed a cubitus varus deformity of 25 degrees on the right. The surgical procedure included a lateral wedge osteotomy, double plate fixation, and LCL reconstruction with autologous triceps fascia. Postoperative radiographs confirmed a corrected CA of 5 degrees. Bone union was achieved at the six-month follow-up with satisfactory results. The use of triceps fascia for LCL reconstruction for PLRI due to cubitus varus would provide a minimally invasive and reasonable treatment option.

BACKGROUND: In individuals with transfemoral amputation (TFA), adaptations caused by prosthesis use may adversely affect contractile/noncontractile structures. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the immediate effect of the thoracolumbar fascia (TLF) kinesiology taping (KT) on the tone and stiffness of the fascia, low back pain (LBP) and standing balance in individuals with TFA. METHODS: Syrian male participants with TFA were enrolled in the prospective, single-blind, randomised controlled trial. Participants were divided into two groups: Experimental (EG with KT, n= 15) and Control (CG with sham KT, n= 14). A 6-minute walk test (6MWT) was performed, after which KT was applied. Measurements were taken at baseline, immediately after the 6MWT and 30 minutes after KT. RESULTS: Although pain decreased below baseline in both groups at 30 minutes post intervention (p< 0.001), the rate of pain reduction was significantly higher in the EG (p= 0.016). Anterior-posterior sway with eyes open improved significantly 30 minutes after KT application only in the EG (p= 0.010). In the eyes closed condition, anterior-posterior and medio-lateral sway decreased significantly compared to baseline 30 minutes after taping in the EG (p= 0.010-0.032). CONCLUSION: KT can be used as an effective method to support standing balance and reduce LBP in individuals with TFA.

Background: Hip fractures, commonly known as the "terminal fracture of life," frequently necessitate prompt surgical intervention and are accompanied by significant perioperative pain. Objective: This investigation was performed to assess the impact of fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) on heart rate variability during the perioperative period in elderly individuals with hip fractures. Design: Single-center, randomized, controlled clinical trial. Setting: The study was conducted from September 2021 to February 2023 at one tertiary care hospital in China. Participants: Patients aged ≥60 years who underwent general anesthesia for hip fracture surgery were screened for enrollment. Eighty patients were initially assessed for eligibility, 70 underwent randomization, and 62 were included in the final analysis. Methods: Preoperatively, the patients were randomly allocated to either receive (Group F) or not receive (Group C) ultrasound-guided suprainguinal FICB. The primary endpoint was heart rate variability indicators at the corresponding time points. The secondary endpoints included the mean arterial pressure and heart rate measured at different time points [upon admission to the operating room (T1), during positioning (T2), at the time of skin incision (T3), 30 min after the start of surgery (T4), and 6 h postoperatively (T5)] and visual analogue scale (VAS) score, dose of oral pain medication over 24 h, and satisfaction scores were valued. Results: Compared with Group C, Group F had a significantly reduced low-frequency band, high-frequency band, and low-/high-frequency band ratio at T3, T4, and T5 (P < 0.05). Group F also had a lower heart rate at T2, T3, T4, and T5 (P < 0.05). Moreover, Group F had lower flurbiprofen dosages at 24 h postoperatively (P < 0.05) and lower resting VAS scores at 6 and 24 h postoperatively (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Utilization of ultrasound-guided FICB has the potential to yield efficacious analgesic effects, mitigate the pronounced fluctuations in heart rate induced by surgical stimulation, and maintain autonomic function stability to a certain degree.

PURPOSE: Posterior fossa surgeries for pediatric tumors pose challenges in achieving optimal dural repair and duraplasty is usually required. Autografts, allografts, xenografts, and synthetic substitutes can be used for duraplasty. Autologous cervical fascia can be a safe and reliable graft option for duraplasty after posterior fossa surgeries. This study aims to investigate the outcomes of duraplasty with autologous cervical fascial graft in children after posterior fossa surgery for pediatric brain tumors. METHODS: Pediatric patients with posterior fossa tumor who underwent surgery between March 2001 and August 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Data on demographics, preoperative symptoms, diagnosis, tumor characteristics, hydrocephalus history, and postoperative complications, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage, pseudomeningocele, and meningitis were collected. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore risk factors for postoperative complications. RESULTS: Patient cohort included 214 patients. Autologous cervical fascia was used in all patients for duraplasty. Mean age was 7.9 ± 5.3 years. Fifty-seven patients (26.6%) had preoperative hydrocephalus and 14 patients (6.5%) received VPS or EVD perioperatively. Postoperative hydrocephalus was present in 31 patients (14.5%). Rates of CSF leak, pseudomeningocele, and meningitis were 4.2%, 2.8%, and 4.2% respectively. Logistic regression analysis revealed that postoperative EVD and VPS placement were the factors associated with postoperative complications. CONCLUSION: Autologous cervical fascia is a safe and reliable option for duraplasty with minimal risk of postoperative complications. The straightforward surgical technique and with no additional cost for harvesting the graft renders autologous cervical fascia a favorable alternative for resource-limited countries or surgical settings.

BACKGROUND: Depressive disorder and chronic pain are prevalent conditions that often co-occur. The myofascial fascial continuum has been hypothesized to contribute to both conditions. However, limited research exists on the specific association between fascial properties and chronic pain and depression. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the properties of the deep fascia of the M. trapezius and their relationship with depression, chronic neck pain, and cervical spine mobility. METHOD: This study compared fascial properties between two groups: individuals with depression and chronic neck pain, and healthy individuals. Fascial thickness, elasticity, and stiffness were measured as primary outcomes using standardized techniques such as ultrasound imaging and compliance meter. Statistical analyses were conducted to identify potential differences and correlations in fascial properties between the two groups. RESULT: Significant differences emerge in stiffness, tone, and fascia thickness in the deep fascia, alongside identified correlations between depression, chronic pain, and these variables. CONCLUSION: The study highlights the impact of depression and chronic pain on fascial properties, emphasizing the need for further research in this domain to unravel the intricate connections and potential implications for treatment strategies.
